Your Referral
As a Specialist Surgical practice, we are predominantly referral-based. All referrals are subject to a review and approval process and in some cases we may require further information from you or your referring practitioner or GP before arranging an appointment.
For Facial Aesthetic and Cosmetic Surgery, you will require a referral however may not always be eligible to claim a medicare rebate. In some circumstances (skin lesion excision, rhinoplasty/nose surgery due to previous trauma or airway obstruction), a rebate may be applicable with a current, valid referral; our team will be able to clarify this for you.
For oral surgery and oral pathology, skin cancer surgery, TMJ and orthognathic (jaw correction surgery) consultations, you will require a valid referral from a registered medical or dental practitioner. A referral in these circumstances may allow you to claim a medicare rebate for some of the costs associated with consultation and surgical fees.
Although Dr Armstrong holds a dental degree (along with a medical degree) as part of specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical training, we are a specialist surgical practice and therefore with the execption of surgical extractions and implants, we do not accept referrals for routine general dental treatment (fillings, scale and clean etc) or dental assessment.
Please note that as a private practice we are not affiliated with NSW Health; we do not routinely review or manage public patients in the practice, or facilitate booking directly to the public hospital wait list. If you wish to be treated as a public patient or managed on a public hospital list, you will need to be assessed in a public hospital outpatient or oral health clinic. Certain eligibility criteria apply and you should discuss this with your referring practitioner. We do not accept responsibility if your referral has been mis-directed in this regard.
At present, we are not offering Tele-health appointments, and you will need to attend for your first consult in-person.
For urgent referrals, due to demand for appointments we operate a waitlist system, and our clinic will contact you to offer an appointment when this becomes available. We reserve the right to triage referrals and manage appointments at our discretion, to request further information from referrers, and to re-direct, refuse or return referrals.
Even if accepted for an appointment, until seen in our practice your care remains the responsibility of your referring practitioner and any urgent concerns should be discussed with them in the first instance.
A referral form can be downloaded below and completed by your referring practitioner. Once your referral is reviewed and an appointment is confirmed, our team will contact you to arrange for you to complete a patient registration form.
If you require more information, please contact our administration team to discuss further.
